ANITA DRUMMING
Anita Drumming was raised in a home that was passionate about art and music. Her family name inspired her and her siblings desire for the arts. As early as 1st grade, her teachers encouraged her to follow her passion. And she did.
As a native New Yorker, Anita has studied at notable institutions such as the Fashion Institute of Technology, the Arts Student League, School of Visual Arts, the International Center of Photography and the New School. She found inspiration during regular visits to museums and galleries. She got invaluable exposure to the arts while working at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and later at Bernice Steinbaum Gallery in Soho, New York. Later, she worked as a photo-engraver, a typographer, a photographer and an art director.
With a career that spans decades, Anita started when type was set in galley, mechanicals were built with a triangle and a T-square and 4x5 camera was the primary camera in a photo studio. Now she prepares projects for print and web using here experience during her growth in this field.
Following a recommendation from Bernice Steinbaum, Anita began as a Photo-engraver and Typographer at the Jean Brunel Studio in lower Manhattan. A company collaboration lead her to 219-TYPE as a Typographer and Graphic Artist moving her up to midtown. She then took a position as a Production Artist, at The Ace Group and later as Photographer in the digital photo studio, working closely with art directors and retouchers.
In addition to agency experience at Young & Rubicam and Grey Direct, she also took on design projects as an independent contractor for Women’s Wear Daily, designing and producing advertorials and articles for the trade publication. Her extensive list of clients over her career include AT&T, Citibank, Adobe, Land Rover, Pfizer, Warner Bros.
With strong organization and the ability to quickly learn new skills, she possesses a reliable work ethic based on integrity, quality, a positive attitude. She also remains committed to the art of photography as she continues to build an extraordinary body of work. She has earned international recognition for the image shown above, entitled, "The Canvas: A Self-Portrait," published in CameraArts Magazine. And, as a result of her contributions in publishing, she was featured in the 19th Anniversary Edition of an SMSI publication in 2003, as a role model celebrating her achievements in the industry.
BUILDING A BRAND
The idea that an artist be limited to a particular platform, era or focus, seems absurd. Art is everything and Anita remains committed to the art of photography, the love of design and a desire to evolve with an ever-changing creative industry.
